Summer was always supposed to be fun. But this year, beyond frequent pool trips to beat the heat and sour lemonade on the tongue, almost nothing had been happening. Work was a drag with the sun beating down on her pelt and hot roads under her poor paws, but she persevered regardless.

 

Delivery Dog was renowned for her delivery abilities- so much so she'd been nicknamed for it! It was a title she wore proudly on her sleeve, something that proved how she could help others. Because of this, when she heard of the upcoming summer festival, she volunteered as soon as she could. And boy was it the perfect decision! It was like every problem the summer had faced her with thus far completely disappeared.

 

The event was so lively, even before it had started. Balloons were hung on every corner, and streamers and confetti practically fell from the sky. It was any party puppy's dream. Running from place to place was exciting, but getting to meet every other helper in the process was such a fun experience, Delivery Dog practically didn't notice her panting. The sun was hot, but the snow cones offered free to all helpers were so refreshing, that any bit of tiredness faded in an instant. Delivery Dog was sure she could do this for the rest of her life if somehow the event would never end.

 

By the end of the first day, she'd gone home with glitter stuck in her fur. And when she came the next day to continue, her bag was full of toys and tickets instead of her normal letters. When things calmed down later in the night, when most had left, she spent those last few minutes of the day smiling at the sunset and crunching away at some late-night popcorn snacks. Watching every other Soapuppy work hard was such a fulfilling feeling, especially knowing she was part of the determined team of many.

 

Every little trinket carefully placed in the prize booth, every mismatched streamer, every glitter bomb placed for unsuspecting victims. It was all so exciting! She could hardly wait for the event to open fully- for everyone else she knew to enjoy the festivities.

 

When the preparations finally concluded, Delivery Dog was just as giddy as the little pups and kittens lining up and jittering in excitement. Somehow, the sugary treats tasted even sweeter when she wasn't alone in enjoying the fun. The carnival games were somehow more challenging, the ticket booth someone more daunting. It enhanced the experience tenfold, and she loved it.

 

And to top it all off, the carnival went much later into the evening than the preparation stage had let her stay. Watching the sunset in full from a Ferris wheel while sipping on a smooth was the best experience since the summer had started. And when she went home to snuggle up in her bed that night, the vision stayed so clear in her mind and in her dreams for the rest of the night.
