part two: What an au-trage!
It’s another beautiful day at the Summer Soapwalk, and it really feels like summer is in full swing now! The sun is beating down as Soapuppies of all ages continue to relax on the soapwalk. For a few days, you’ve noticed signs and posters advertising a new addition to the summer festivities, so you’ve taken the day to see what it’s all about. As you stroll past the attractions and rides, a large red and golden tent greets you. The sounds and colors from within makes your chest well with excitement as you approach, but the magic is broken when you’re distracted by a squabble happening at the side of the tent.
You spot a sea lion clown with brightly colored soap and a red nose operating a balloon making machine by the tent. He seems to be excitedly talking to someone, and as you look down, you spot a familiar face! Dr. Alfred T. Seal seems to be berating the friendly-looking clown. “Au au au! Au! Au au?! (Are you seriously displaying those garish balloons? It’s an assault on my eyes! Do you have any idea how valuable my eyes are?!)”
Somehow, the sea lion still seems to be in good spirits as he responds, “Of course, Dr. Alfred! I’m a big fan of your work!”
This remark somehow got Alfred even more riled up, “Au! Au au au au! (That’s preposterous! Any fan of mine would know that such an assortment of colors have no place being used to decorate any establishment!)”
The sea lion nods as he begins to blow up another balloon, “I really appreciate the feedback Dr. Alfred, this is a dream come true!” The sea lion continues to talk, but in his excitement, he loosens his grip on the balloon and it goes flying through the air and hits Alfred right in the face! There’s a moment of silence and tension in the air as everyone processes what just happened. Before you know it, Alfred explodes into a fit of rage! He hops closer to the clown as he flails his flippers around and frantically barks. In his frustration, his tail catches on the side of the balloon machine, causing it to fall over. Alfred yelps in surprise, and the balloons that were tied to the machine began to come loose.
Among the commotion, you finally run over to help the clown stop the balloons from flying away. Unfortunately though, it’s too late. The clown’s smile starts to fade, and you notice that his colors start to lose their saturation as well. “Au au au! (Serves you and your hideous balloons right!)” Alfred huffed, crossing his flippers and turning his head up in triumph. You watch as the seal galumphs away without another word.
The sea lion looks absolutely miserable, and you try to offer him some words of comfort. “Thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it. My name is Pierre, by the way.” He responds in a monotone voice. It’s a stark change from the cheerful demeanor you saw just moments before. “It’s ok, I can make more balloons. But it did make me sad that Dr. Alfred would do that. I can take criticism, but I didn’t think he would throw my hard work away like that without saying sorry!” Pierre sniffs and wipes his eyes.
You pat him on the shoulder and offer to help get his balloons back, and he lights up a little bit, “You would really do that for me? Oh, I can’t thank you enough! I’ll make sure to get you something in return!” He claps his flippers in excitement, “Oh and one more thing- if you see Dr. Alfred again, do you think you could try to talk to him for me?” He adds. You nod your head and agree to help him reconcile with Alfred as well. Pierre thanks you one last time as you depart on your mission to get his balloons back!
