Exclusive traits are traits that cannot be purchased, only be obtained via events and other special occasions! The easiest way to obtain one would be via obtaining a Swirly Shampoo through event and other prompts!

Common traits are the freebies of the Soapuppy world! They can be added and swapped out on a Soapuppy for free, 

These are Soapuppies that lack anything needed to count as a valid Soapuppy. Illegal traits do not need to be fixed or acted upon, and Soapuppies with them are still valid to be used within any activies. However, if a character with an illegal trait ever has a design update request submitted, said illegal trait will need to be fixed within the update.
